First Impressions // Dr.G and Blossom Jeju

Wednesday 4 April 2018

These products were sent to me by Skinsider for purpose of review.

I love trying new skincare and I was so happy when I was given the chance by Skinsider to try some products from two brands I have heard of but haven't gotten round to trying. Those brands namely are Dr. G and Blossom Jeju, the latter in particular is one that I have seen doing the rounds on the K-beauty community on Instagram. So, you can imagine how excited I was! Due to these being sample sized products, I will only be giving a first impression on them as some of them I only got about 2-5 uses out of on average.

Skinsider is a UK based store owned by Karolina. They stock a range of Korean skincare products, primarily those in the mid-high end range. They make sure the products shared on their site are tried and researched to best advantage skin and those with different skin types. One thing that has made them stand out from some of the other stores is that they also have a section listing some vegan Korean products. I mention this due to me having a fair few vegan followers who may be wanting to experiment in K-beauty but struggle to find out which brands/products are or are not.

When trying out new skincare, I have skin that doesn't react negatively to certain ingredients apart from times around my period where my skin is hyper sensitive and I'll usually choose to refrain from skincare or skincare primarily marketed at sensitive skin. So, I would say on the whole I have fairly robust skin and don't need to worry about certain ingredients. However, because I know there are those that suffer from certain reactions to certain ingredients in skincare, I have also shared the ingredients list so you can decide for yourself whether the product is suited for your skin or not.

Finding a good toner can be a bit of a struggle, in my own experience a lot of the ones I have used have ended up drying my skin more than it was before, however this one claims to help your skin hold moisture for more than 48 hours. This is a very light and refreshing toner that is coupled with a soft and gentle scent to it. The consistency is that of typical toners, a thin liquid and is very cooling on the skin. Making it an ideal toner to use when your skin is feeling on the hot side for whatever reason

As implied, the toner didn't do any drying of my skin and actually managed to add some more moisture to it after using my cleanser. Which is a complete bonus and not something I see often! It helped my skin look brighter and provided for a good base for the rest of my skin care routine to be applied to.

Dr. G Aquasis Water Soothing Gel Cream

Along with the previous product in the line, this moisturiser aims to help your skin retain it's moisture levels for over 48 hours.

Now this is a thick gel type moisturiser and this is only a good thing in my eyes as my skin, particularly in the winter, needs something a little bit more robust in order for it to feel properly moisturised. A little goes a long way and it applies to the skin so smoothly and absorbs within good time. Following immediate use my skin felt velvety soft and just looked like it had been given a good kick of moisture into it. After using at night, my skin still remained incredibly soft and looked healthy, looking like it didn't actually need to be moisturised again. This seemed to remain with the regular use of this product, making it an ideal product for those who want a moisturiser that will truly moisturise and give you supple looking skin.

Sometimes I find gel type mositurisers can leave the skin feeling a bit tight and dry, however, there is absolutely no issue here with this product and it's just an all round good product. This is one I am definitely considering purchasing a full sized version of as the price is fairly reasonable for the actual results it gives.

This is a product I've seen doing the rounds not only in the Kbeauty community, but in the beauty/skincare community as well and one that is highly raved out. I'm always anxious about trying out hyped up products but I'm always up for trying anything. Peeling gels are such a fascinating and enjoyable product to use and I love when you massage them into the skin how the dead skin cells attach onto the product making little clumps. It's so so satisfying to do and I could easily do it everyday.

Upon first use, I found this product had quite a strong scent to it, one that reminds me a little of witch hazel if I am honest. A pleasant scent, but still one that is on the strong side. This has a nice consistency to it, not too thick and not too thin. I typically apply a thin layer all over my face onto dry skin and spend 1-2 minutes massaging it gently or until there are no more new clumps forming when you are rubbing it in. The result of this was a gentle exfoliation that left my skin looking a lot smoother and feeling softer. Having used more abrasive type gels in the past for this kind of thing, I think the mild versions are much more beneficial to me in the long run.

A couple of days of use and the appearance of my skin had improved in terms of how bright my skin was. While it did help my overall texture, my skin just looked full of life compared to before. This would be a great addition to your weekly skincare routine, using it ideally 2-3 times a week. Another one of these products I intend on possibly purchasing in the future again.

Dr. G Radiance Dual Essence BB Cream
I'm a big lover of BB creams and have been using a variety for the last 8 years, I've had some great experiences with some and some poor ones. However, my short experience with this one in particular lands itself in my list of great ones. A BB cream intending on brightening the skin, while providing UV protection with an SPF of 50+. There are also no parabens, alcohol or sulfates. However, due to fragrances within the ingredients, it may not be 100% suitable for those with sensitive skin.

This Dr.G BB Cream comes in one shade only and I would say it's a fair shade with yellow undertones to it. The consistency is thinner than that of other BB creams I have used but isn't super thin. I think this is what gives the BB cream a rather natural look and coverage. However, I found that the coverage did last for the majority of the day with no issue and there was no greasiness

Here's a little before and after (this is completely unedited as to show an accurate result. I did however apply a tinted lip balm in the second image) so you can see the appearance of it on my skin. I find the application to be light-medium and the finish one that is half matte/dewy. It covered up my redness well while brightening up my overall complexion. Of course, you can still see my deeper ice pick scars but I never expect make up to cover these, however some of my more shallow ones are less visible. One thing that lets me know the coverage is natural is that it doesn't hide my beauty spots!

It's a little more expensive than my usual BB Creams I go for, but I feel like it would be one I would buy in order to have one that had a very natural finish to it rather than full coverage.

I'll be honest here, this is a product that has been on my lust list for the longest time and I'm so so thankful I have been given a chance to sample it out! My main reason for not buying it yet is that it is way way out of my price range but being able to try a sample of it allows me the chance to try it out and see if I feel like it is worth that price tag. This was definitely my most anticipated product while I was waiting for the package to be delivered.

The product comes out of a little dropper and is a clear liquid with a soft, gentle floral scent that seems to primarily come from the jasmine oil within the ingredients. The inclusion of this could cause a reaction to those with sensitive skin but it's all a matter of knowing your skin and how it reacts to certain oils and fragrances  It's a quite a light serum that still has some viscosity to it. It is spread over the skin with ease and does take a little bit of time to absorb into the skin. However, when it is fully absorbed, your skin is met with a boost of moisture and just feels and looks more healthy. Like, it came as a surprise how much this serum could make such a difference to the appearance of my skin!

I've had a good few uses out of this sample size, and I have been using it sparingly in order to try and get the most out of it and it's safe to say I might end up splurging on the full sized version somepoint or another. I feel like it could definitely be a product that could benefit my skin in the long run and be worth the price in the end. It's also made me want to try out some of the sheet masks that the brand has on offer as well to see if they work as well as the serum does.

I will definitely be making full sized purchases of the moisturiser and the serum when I have the spare money sitting around to get them. The other products are on a maybe list of potential products I will buy!
