My K(+J)-Beauty Skincare Use Up 2018

Sunday, 23 September 2018

It's not all too rare for you to have some skincare products just sitting there, being used occasionally or just not being used at all. Throughout my own journey of learning what skincare works for me, I've learnt that some products just aren't for me or don't have as great an effect on my skin as I need. However, this doesn't mean they are bad products or that they are bad for my skin. It's more a case of there are other types of products I would prefer. I'm intending to looking more into products I want to help certain issues with my skin and I'm planning on a beauty spending ban for the rest of the year unless it's necessary (such as base makeup or eyeliner). So, for when it comes round to getting new products, I don't want products that may end up ignored or are nearly done anyway to be sitting about taking up space.

So here's a small selection of the products I intend on finishing up by the time 2019 comes around. This is just the skincare section as there are some makeup products, but the amount is vastly smaller.

CLEANSERS

As someone who wears makeup regularly, it's so important for me to make sure I thoroughly cleanse my skin. A big advocate for double cleansing, I find the oil cleanser to be the most important but I want to have an equally good second cleanser. I'm not overly strict with how my cleansers are, as long as they don't give me that artificially soft skin feeling afterwards and doesn't dry my skin out to no end, then I'm good. Foam cleansers are great for a light wash of the skin and tend to be on the gentle side, so ideal for sensitive skin. However, for me, while they don't cleanse well, I no longer seem to enjoy foamed up cleansers. This is just my own personal preference. So I'm aiming to finish the Innisfree The Minimum Facial Cleanser (originally mentioned in this post) and the Neogen Real Fresh Foam Green Tea Cleanser. Both very good cleansers with nice delicate scents (I particularly love that the Neogen one has actual green tea leaves at the bottom of the package. I just need something a tiny bit more robust on my skin. A non-foam cleanser and one that is actually a Japanese product is the Rosette Cleansing Paste Acne Clear Cleanser. This was the first Japanese cosmetic product I have tried and one that I enjoy using. It helps aid acne clearing when my breakout begins to subside but because I have had it for quite a while, I would rather finish it than use it many years later.

TONERS

I love, love, love my toners and they are definitely a product I end up owning too many of. My preferred method of applying is to put an amount in the palm of my hand and gently pat it onto my skin until it is absorbed. Sometimes repeating this multiple times. A different method than using typical cotton pads as I often worry about product waste. Two toners I'm going to use up are the Etude House Wonder Pore Freshener (mentioned here) this is one of those cult K-beauty toners that everyone has had at one time or another. I really do like this toner, however, I have about 3 months until it expires, so this will be the one I try to use up first. Alongside this is the Innisfree The Minimum Toner. This toner made me fall in love with the concept of spray toners, something so easy and convenient for the busy mum I am in the mornings when I don't have a lot of time to focus on skincare.

AMPOULE

So there is actually only one product here and that is the Innisfree The Minimum Serum Ampoule. A product I have enjoyed and is actually the one in this list that has the least amount of product left of it. It didn't have as drastic an effect that my skin actually needs, but it did help me add some extra moisture into my skin overall.

WHAT'S COMING NEXT?

There are actually a few skincare brands I intend on purchasing from when the new year begins and you can bet you will be seeing a massive haul of those products. I've yet to be able to try out Cosrx, a very highly praised brand when it comes to Korean beauty and I particularly want to try the AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner, for which I have seen a lot of positive reviews from. There are also a few more Innisfree products I want to get my hands on and I feel like I want to dip my toes into mid-range brands such as Huxley, Heimish and more. While I am using up the last of my Innisfree The Minimum line, I fully intend on replacing them with products from the Etude House Soon Jung line, one that I have sampled before but really want to incorporate into my full routine.

If there are any brands you haven't seen me talk about that you love or ones you're more interested to know, please let me know and I'll get and research what products tickle my fancy from them.

REVIEW // eyenlip Salmon Oil Nutrition Serum + Overall Brand Impression

Wednesday, 19 September 2018

When moving on from the typical cleanse-tone-moisturise skincare routine, one of the first things that became an addition for me was a serum. They're typically great little powerhouses that you can select and choose what is going to benefit your skin the most and what problems you have. This Salmon Oil Nutrition Serum aims to slow down the appearance of wrinkles and other signs of ageing, whiten the skin and help stimulate collagen production. For aspects such as anti-ageing, it's almost impossible for me to test as I don't have any visible wrinkles yet. So I will be reviewing this purely on how it makes my skin feel and look after use.

This post is in part of a series of posts about eyenlip where I have received I variety of products to try out and in return, review here on my blog for my readers to discover. All opinions are my own, however.

A B O U T   E Y E N L I P

Eyenlip was launched in 2017 by the founders of beautynetkorea, a stockist and seller of a large variety of Korean beauty brands. They also have their own eBay page where they sell the same items under the username f2plus1 (which is one of my most used and trusted stores on the site). Over the past year or so the brand coming to be, they have been gradually building their repertoire of skincare and makeup products. With the aim of making their products affordable and easily accessible, targeting a number of different concerns.

One of my primary concerns when I first used this product was that it was going to have a hint of a fishy scent due to the fact that it contains salmon oil. Even one of my friends who wanted to have a try of it worried about this. However, the serum has a very delicate floral scent to it. Which, of course, was a pleasant surprise. A lot of serums I use tend to be very thin and water-like, but this one comes in a slight gel type form. This allows it to absorb into the skin almost immediately after application and didn't leave any kind of sticky residue. It also applies very smoothly.

Because of this, this serum has become a very regular part of my morning routine. Making it quick and easy for me to get my skincare done and not have to worry about letting layers dry a bit so I can go onto the next so I can get my make up on for the day. My skin feels soft and moisturised after each and every use and I feel like it has helped contribute to some of my scarring on my face reducing in appearance.

I love the packaging of this product, it's a large bottle of the serum for one thing (aka. more product!) and the simple and sleek gold packaging is gorgeous too.

I would recommend this if you're looking to add serums into your daytime routine and want something that will help make that quick for you. I think this is a possible repurchase from me as I do like how it makes my skin feel! It's also relatively affordable at just under £10! It can be purchased here from BeautyNetKorea.

My Overall Impression of Eyenlip

Be sure to check out the rest of my reviews!

I thought I would take some time to speak about my overall first impression of the brand. I have enjoyed using the products received a lot and appreciate the sheer amount I was given. While some of the products may not be my absolute favourite over others, they are still really good, working products that do as they claim. I think if you're looking into more affordable options when it comes to K-beauty, it might be worth trying them out as their products are so affordable and do work for that price.

There are a few products that they have I'm quite interested in trying such as the rest of the calamansi range as I loved the sheet mask so much and I'm interested to see how the rest of the range performs. I would definitely be repurchasing the Calamansi Sheet Masks, the aloe vera gel and quite possibly this serum.

REVIEW // eyenlip Black Snail All-in-One Cream

Monday, 17 September 2018

Moisturising your skin is such an important thing, no matter what season it's best to keep moisture locked in for supple, soft skin. It not only feels better but also ends up being a better base for applying makeup too. Snail mucus is one of those famed Korean skincare ingredients that everyone chooses to mention. It comes across as a ~quirky~ ingredient but is actually something that can be so beneficial to the skin. It's particularly great for its anti ageing benefits. Something that I've only just started to begin looking into with my skincare as I am on the latter half of my 20s now.

This post is in part of a series of posts about eyenlip where I have received a variety of products to try out and in return, review here on my blog for my readers to discover.

Of course, while testing this Black Snail All-in-One Cream from eyenlip, I'm not going to see the full anti ageing effects as I'm lucky enough to not have any wrinkles as of yet. However, I'm able to give a general impression of this moisturiser and how it has benefited my own skin.

Not surprisingly, as a product that has snail mucus in it, the cream itself has a stickiness to it. While taking it out of the tub you will notice it's a little stringy as it's moved about. However, this stickiness doesn't last when applied onto the skin. It's a very lightweight and gentle moisturiser that manages to help my skin overall feel a lot less dehydrated. A little goes a long way and you only need to use a small amount to make sure that your entire face benefits. Because of this, I found it to be a very useful morning moisturiser as it absorbed into my skin within a few minutes, leaving me with smooth skin, ready to apply my make up base. There's nothing worse than using a morning moisturiser and your skin still feels heavy and clogged with moisturiser before having to then apply makeup afterwards.

I also ended up using this as a primary neck moisturiser. Since this is an area where ageing is supposed to show first, it has helped me keep the skin on my neck protected and hydrated.

Overall, I've felt quite impressed with this little moisturiser and with a lot in the pot and being less than £5 in price, it's worth trying out at the very least. I would definitely consider repurchasing this if I was in a pinch with money and needed a good quality moisturiser. As with all the eyenlip products, this can be purchased at BeautyNetKorea.

Eyenlip also has a set of mini moisturisers from their line, giving you a chance to try out the different ones they have available and see which is most suitable for your skin before dedicating yourself to the full thing.
